Google Docs has been a leader in free, web-based word processors for several years. Includes a word processor program, spreadsheet, presentation, and data storage. Adopted by many people as it is also included with free GMail. Makes for a highly portable system so you can run office apps, or get your school work done anywhere you have internet access, regardless of platform.
Microsoft's answer to the online virtual desktop. Your faves, Word, Power Point, Excel.
Good: Offering a striped down versions of MS Office online. Great for students because many do not have the resources for software purchasing. Great for Teachers, for the same reason. In you have Windows Live account, you can plug this in to the overwhelming array of features available to your Hot Mail account. Bad: Still in beta mode. While Google Docs has a 3+ year jump on beta version and should be entering Version 1, Windows will have time to improve.
Collaboration and file sharing for Mac users. This is still in Beta mode but I have used it in a pinch. Intergrated with Apple's email .Me accounts and "the cloud", which has been the symbol for iDisk lately since many people were just not getting the iDisk concept. Although many of us still use that for Apples' Time Machine. Interface is very intuitive and follows the link and feel of all current Apple products.
Use your cell phone to podcast. This program allows you to use your cell phone as a recording device to podcast. You can also use your computer VoIP client. (Voice Over Internet Protocol).
Online portfolio building and hosting. Encourage students to create a portfolio for all of their school work where they can collaborate or show portfolio work to future college prospects for Art School.
